Metal Sculpture, Stone Carving, Rust Art & Prints
The studio of Brian Kirk, where reclaimed steel and quarried stone meet the slow, deliberate work of nature. Monumental to table top, each piece is made by hand.
The Studio
A dialogue between human intent and the hand of nature.
Brian Kirk is fascinated by the compelling and delicate balance between human intent to direct desired outcomes versus the inevitable surrender to Nature's process of erosion and rebirth. His metal sculpture harnesses reclaimed stone or steel that conveys industrial prowess and raw, bold energy. But as his rust art and prints show, there is also an ever-present acceptance of natural chemical reactions that, with time, enable simple elements of water and oxygen to disable even the strength of steel.

She doesn't make the same pattern twice, but does guarantee that something is going to happen as the material breaks down.
Over ten years, Kirk developed a proprietary process of painting with rust, layering archival paper with an oxidizing agent and surrendering the outcome to water and time. The delicate intricacies and ethereal images that result are always amazing.
